“A Dog Might Be” by Tim Grace

Man’s best friend, a dog might be,
he dotes with admiration.
But regardless of his pedigree
he causes consternation.
Dress him up from top to tail,
shine his coat and collar.
But, what’s the bet that without fail,
he’ll lead you in to squaller.
Take him out to the finest park,
frequented there by poodles,
and off his lead, he’ll beg and bark,
and steal the apple strudels.
. Beware the dog that trains his master,
. it won’t be long before disaster!

How silly it was of me
To conveniently forget
The sharpness of his teeth
Of this my little pet.
Puppy’s name is Archer
Born under the ‘star sign’
A Curley Coated Retriever
And now he is all mine.
The cutest little face
Will grow into his nose
The biggest personality
Which already shows.
A precocious little pup
With so much energy
Confident and fearless
And naughty by decree.
A constant source of pleasure
Sometimes frustration too
But in the end puppy love
Envelopes all of you.

Little Jack Horner
Sat in the corner,
Eating his curds and whey.
Little Miss Muffet
Fell off her tuffet,
And frightened Jack Horner away.

“A Christmas Table” by Toni Newell

A ham sat on the table,
It was not alone,
Beside it sat a turkey,
Its origin unknown.
A bowl of sweet potato,
Another full of peas,
Carrots, baked potato,
Enough for all to please.
A jug filled with gravy,
Waiting to be poured,
Broccoli in the centre,
Which cannot be ignored.
A table blessed with offerings,
A scrumptious fare,
A merry Christmas dinner,
A feast for all to share.
