“Eat Your Veggies” by Stephanie Boase

Eat Your Veggies!
Eat your veggies,
Hurry up!
They’re good for you, you know.
Eat the greens and in-betweens
And big and strong you’ll grow!
Lettuce, tomatoes, beans and such
Give vitamins and iron;
All the things your body needs
To keep it running fine.
And afterwards
We’ll have dessert,
Your favourite fruity treat;
Ice cream served with apple pie.
So eat your veggies now,
My Sweet!

With happy anticipation,
My fingers hug my mug,
Warming my hands
And body whole.
Smooth and soothing,
The chocolatey trickles,
Down my throat as I sip;
Warm ripples of contentment roll.
Soft melting marshmallows
Float atop;
Silky pillows of sweetness.
Comfort for a busy mind
Nurturing body and soul,
Hot Chocolate!

‘Sunflowers’ by Stephanie Boase
Leave a commentTwo little seeds
In one big pot.
I tend your needs,
And water at lot.
I wait and watch.
I’m happy to spy
Two little shoots
Emerge, by and by.
A leaf or two,
And now there’s three!
It doesn’t take long
Before your up to my knee.
Standing up tall
You reach for the sun.
Large leaves spreading,
Two grow together as one.
Like twins you stand
Now past my waist.
You look so grand,
As you grow with haste.
Buds are forming,
I’m excited to see!
I wonder how big
Your faces will be.

’Wish for wings’ by Stephanie Boase
Leave a commentWish for wings
Oh, little bird
Sitting in the tree,
Why do you sit there
Looking at me?
The sun is shining
The air is clear.
Is that another bird’s
Song you hear?
You cock your head
And listen with care.
Then flutter away,
Soft wings, on air.
I wish that I
had wings like you
To glide on the breeze
Through the sky so blue.

Brush your teeth
Comb your hair
Dress up smart
To look the part
Gather together
Re-arrange
Bunch up tight
Now, move apart
Pick up the children
Brush off the dirt
Everyone still…
This won’t hurt.
Oh no,
Here comes a sneeze!
Look at the camera
‘Smiling please.’
Camera
Flash
Toilet dash
‘Dinner time!’
Adults chime.
Just one more
CLICK
“That’s a take!”
All the children celebrate.
Lolly bribes have worked a treat.
Now,
Let’s all go out to eat!
Possums in the Veggie Patch by Stephanie Boase
Leave a commentPossums in the Veggie Patch
Possums in the veggie patch!
Stealing radishes at night.
Pulling off the leaves
Munching with all their might.
They didn’t like the basil much
But picked a leaf or two,
Nibbled juicy lettuce leaves,
Then found the radishes to chew.
They must have sent a message out
For friends to come around
And share the tasty radishes
They’d fortunately found.
A radish-feasting possum party
Held at this address!
You’d think they’d clean up afterwards
And not leave such a mess!

‘Welcome’ by Stephanie Boase
Leave a commentWelcome!
Welcome
Little children,
To this vast, brown land.
Come and share the beauty
We’ve come to understand.
There are no boarder fences here,
Only the sea surrounds.
The air is fresh.
The sky is clear.
No bombs or rubble mounds.
You are not alone
In coming from afar.
Many of us, too
Have sought this
Southern Star.
Come join us,
Little children!
Come, play in the sun.
Welcome
Little children,
For we are all as one!
“Let’s Pretend” by Stephanie Boase

My home is a castle
Tall and grand
Set high on a hill
In a faraway land,
Where clouds are pink and
Horses stand
Guarding me
And my fairy band.
We play together
Till break of day,
Dance with the pixies
Then flutter away
On wings as light as snowflakes.
In the meadows and glades
With flowers fair;
Our playground dwells
Beyond compare,
Where daisy chains
I weave with care
And place them daintily
In my hair.
Here, each happy day
Is clear and bright,
Filled with magic
And delight!
