Hi everyone,

I’m inviting you to be colourfully creative this week. Last week’s Bubbles prompt attracted some great submissions and I’m looking forward to seeing what you come up with in response to today’s theme. Your poem can be rhyming or non-rhyming, serious or silly – as long as it’s child-friendly. Thanks to everyone who’s been sending in submissions for the Poem of the Day. I love reading your work and appreciate your generosity in sharing it with other poetry lovers. If you’re still thinking about submitting, please do. And if you’ve missed a prompt you can always catch up later.

Email your poems to traffa-m@bigpond.net.au as a Word or Text file attachment and add a few lines about your writing process.

Happy writing!

Hi to all our wonderful children’s poets and poetry lovers! I hope you’re ready for our second creative challenge of the year. As a child I loved blowing bubbles and watching them float away, only to pop and disappear. My brother and I also blew bubbles through straws in our flavoured milk drinks – and I’ve always enjoyed a bubble bath. I’m sure you can come up with some wonderful poems about bubbles and I can’t wait to read them. Email your contributions to Poem of the Day to traffa-m@bigpond.net.au as Word or Text file attachments and add a word or two about your writing process.

Happy writing!

Happy 2017! I hope your year is off to a wonderful start. The weekly prompts were so popular last year I decided to run them again so to kick off your creativity for the year, here’s #1.  Keep in mind that you are writing a poem for children, so cast your mind back to how you thought and felt when you were young. Email your submissions to me at traffa-m@bigpond.net.au as a Word or Text document attachment and add a line or two about your writing process.

Throughout this year, I’m also planning to run more interviews with poets on the site, and more guest posts about the craft of writing poetry for children. If you’d like to be featured as a Poet in the Spotlight or have writing advice to share, I’d love to hear from you. Don’t forget, too, poetry news and information is always welcome, and if you have any suggestions for improving this site, don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Happy writing!

Here’s a lucky last poetry prompt for 2016 for those with a little time to spare and a yen to finish the year on a creative note. I hope you’ve all been enjoying these weekly prompts as much as I’ve enjoyed reading the wonderful submissions that have been turning up in my in box in response to them. I am always so impressed with what you create and I hope you will continue to contribute to ACP next year. It’s been such a pleasure reading and posting your poems. Send your submissions to me at traffa-m@bigpond.net.au as a Word or Text document attachment and add a few lines about your writing process.

Hi everyone,

It’s the time of year when many of us are thinking of giving, so what better to prompt your creativity than a gift tag. Don’t let the image limit you, though. Gifts can be many and varied and some of the most memorable we receive are not material. Time…thoughtfulness…caring and consideration…friendship… See what you can come up with in a poem for children.

Thank you to all the wonderful poets submitting regularly to this site. Your contributions are much appreciated. Please keep them coming. I love reading your work and sharing it with our growing list of followers.

Send your poems to me at traffa-m@bigpond.net.au as a Word or text document attachment and add a few lines about your writing process.

Happy writing!

This week’s poetry prompt is self explanatory. With the festive season rapidly approaching I decided it was time to explore some ideas about Christmas celebrations. What did this time of the year mean to you as a child? What memories do you have of Christmases past? Send your submissions to me at traffa-m@bigpond.net.au as Word or text document attachments.
