Aylan Kurdi
by Virginia Lowe
He lies on the beach
blue shorts, red tee.
Runners on his feet
Not asleep
though he looks it
He won’t be walking
any more
Only three years old
he doesn’t know he’s gone viral
Too late for him
but not to help the world
find some kindness.

Nice poem, Virginia.
Thanks Bill. Maybe it will help us see how badly we treat asylum seekers! (and vote Green on Saturday – what other choice is there?)
Beautiful poem Aylan. Very poignant.
I hope going viral helps us see how badly we treat refugees, too (and vote Green!)
Perfectly captures the poignancy of that image. Thank you for your poem.
Thanks Sharon. Sorry to be so late with reply – never occurred to me to look for comments. isn’t it awful how we treat the poor refugees – we’re as worse than Europe. Voting Green is the only hope, I think.
simply worded but just right for this sensitive topic.
Glad you liked it. it is a poignant subject – poor refugees! And how badly both parties treat them. i’m voting Green – they care!
Thanks for putting this in yesterday Teena – as it happened, it was a rushed day and for once I didn’t look at it. What happens to it now? Does it go into the general collection? If so, do you want some more from me? most of my ones suitable for kids are in Sally Odgers’ collection. I don’t know whether they can go in both. Oh yes, I’ve got one that didn’t win in a comp, you could have. And do you want a bio if the Aylan one goes into the general collection?
Cheers, Virginia
