The Mob by Jeanie Axton

An emu family crossed the road

not a single care in sight,

unconcerned about all the cars

and what could possibly be strife.

Halfway across all traffic stilled

the mob stopped and looked around

“Whats is all the fuss about?

We are on our way, Homeward bound!”

Boogers by Jeanie Axton

As an expert in the making

flicking boogers is a skill

when Im needing more of them

I know where to refill.

Friends all want to join me

but its an individual sport

one thats learnt through practice

or as they say “self taught”.

Anticipation by Jeanie Axton

Dedicated to Gwen and her Golden Retriever Louie.

The sun is setting

a coloured sky awaits,

“Lets get moving

We cant be late”

We walk and we talk

as we pick up the pace,

towards the sunset

at our sacred place.

To the end of the pier

we arrive at our spot,

out comes the phone

for our nightly shot.

On the way home

I look back and grin

“Thanks for the walk,

Lets do this again”.

Two Pink Galahs by Jeanie Axton

Two old pink galahs

up high in a gumtree

looked down at recess

to see what they could see.

Two junior school boys

glanced up and said “Gidday”

then the two old galahs

spread their wings and flew away.

Horseplay by Jeanie Axton

A game at a campsite.

What do we need?

Five friends and three buckets

and rope for a lead.

Off we go now

galloping down to the bay,

for we are all horses.

Neigh! Neigh! Neigh!

The Mutt Hutt by Jeanie Axton

A custom cut from nose to butt

is what the “Mutt Hutt” does

Snipping, styling the latest trends

and shaving through the fuzz

In through the in door

disarrayed and dirty as can be

Out through the out door

transformed to a beauty queen

A Sensible Hat by Jeanie Axton

A sensible hat is sensible

if worn in a sensible way

by a sensible type of person

at a sensible time of day.

A sensible hat can be silly

ugly, tattered or old

a sensible type of hat

is just that, sensible “so I’m told!”

Three Fat Pigeons by Jeanie Axton

Three fat pigeons

looking very needy,

waddled around a bakery

in central Coober Pedy.

Pecking at the crumbs

with not a worry in sight,

these three fat pigeons

have given up their flight.

An interesting read about the pigeons who didn’t give up their flight! https://amp.abc.net.au/article/101543770

Foster Boxer by Jeanie Axton

This poem was inspired by a news story I watched, then researched, about a boxer named Treasure, who became a mum to eight little piglets on a farm in Queensland.

Eight cute little piglets
grunting and squealing today
because a boxer named Treasure
came bounding their way

A stray herself
Treasure played her part
taking the eight little piglets
straight into her heart

She rounded them up
with cuddles and licking
her milk came in
with the suckling and kicking

On a farm with eight kids
and eight piglets in tow
Treasure the Boxer
put on a great show

She now has a family
Treasure loves them to bits
a boxer and eight piglets
the perfect farm fit

“Amanda Davis” by Jeanie Axton

Amanda Davis

sometimes called Mavis

devoured a mango in May

It dripped down her dress

the juice made a right mess

that couldn’t be scrubbed away!

Her mother was frantic

she threw a huge wobbly

that frightened the families Maltese

He leapt over the fence

sprung up high in the air

and floated away with the breeze

Amanda Davis

sometimes called Mavis

was banned from Mangos in May

She ditched the old dress

took an interest in chess

and chomped on apples instead
