A few events coming up.
Celia one of our regulars is having a book launch in Cairns later this week.

Virginia and John Lowe have a poetry book launch in Melbourne next weekend.

Please send me information about other events you would like promoted.
And here are a few photos from our trip. Maybe I’m the only person ever to have taken Mr Snuffleupagus to the tip of Cape York. This was a highlight as well as staying in a rainforest for two nights. The sounds were amazing. We went on a day trip to Thursday Island which included a bus tour. It was very interesting. They have trade winds on Thursday Island 7 months of the year. In the afternoon it got quite windy and the trip back in the ferry was a bit Wonky Donkey. I bought a KitKat to cope with it. 🍫 I had time on the trip to write and developed an interest in Haiku and gave it a go. Echidna Tracks is a Haiku site you can join and receive one every morning. The ‘ahhh’ moment in this form of poetry appeals to me. I will put a few resources I was given up on the site in the next month.

Think of a children’s song. That’s the first line of your poem this week.
I am leaving later this week on our trip and all poems for the next month are scheduled. Thankyou to poets who have sent in poems for a spotlight during July. Others poems in the waiting room folder will be posted as well. The next prompt will be on Monday 6th of August and to give you the heads up it will be poems about food. That gives you plenty of time to think and write.
When I get coverage I will check emails and save poems sent in.
Please continue to share the site with others.

And today’s quote:

This week prompt is to write from a child’s perspective. Write a poem about yourself pretending you are a child in which nothing is true.

I am on LSL from 28/6 to 30/7. My husband and I are travelling with our caravan to the tip of Cape York and as a result we will be out of range at times especially in “The Cape”. To keep things running well I would like to schedule a month ahead for this time. I was thinking that we could have a spotlight month in July in which the regulars send in 3-4 poems and a paragraph of what you are doing re poetry in 2018. I would need 12 of you to contribute to this idea. If you would like to be part of this please send me the poems and paragraph in Word by Friday 22/6.
Cheers
Jeanie
And todays quote:

Thankyou for the poems sent in. This week we have Scarlett a 10 year old and her request as our focus.

Hopefully via her Dad we can get Scarlett to make comments on what she likes about each poem.

Continuing on from the Autumn theme here is a picture prompt. At school I lead the garden club and once a week we open up the worm farm for students to see, feed and check on the worms. The students love to do this and learn about the worms and how the worm tea helps the plants grow.

And today’s quote:

My grandson William is 17 months old and he loves to go out and see the chickens. We had a lot of rain at the end of last week which meant Will got to wear boots for the first time.
See if you can put those three together into a poem “Boys, boots and chickens”
A reminder you can send in any poem at any time. This week will include publishing of the many great Autumn poems sent in.
