The King’s Birthday by Gemma Creegan

Hip hip hooray

It’s the King’s birthday

Raise a glass, cheer aloud

We all stand tall and proud

The bunting is flying high

As confetti fills the sky

Teas and hot scones galore

The jets let out a mighty roar

The bells of Big Ben chime and ring

We rejoice, ‘God Save the King’.

The winter chill is here

I feel it on my ears

My hands like ice

Soft wool feels nice

My fleecy jacket keeps me toasty

My cheeks are growing rosy

I look like a pink teddy bear

I feel warm so I don’t care

Blobs of jellyfish dot the sea shore
Why are they there? I’m not sure.

Their gooey bodies spoil the view
Interrupting the spotless blue.

They are in the way of my feet too!

Jacaranda Tree by Gemma Creegan

The start of Summer for me
Means tea under the Jacaranda tree.

Sitting on a carpet of purple flowers
I can read and dream for hours.

The birds tweet from on high
As I wave the blossoms goodbye.

The months become colder
I will turn a few months older.

Soon another year will go
Again, the Jacaranda will grow.

A small object of fate
Sits on a leaf of green dew
Hidden in his smallness.

Little red and black creature
Crawling along endless stems
Paths that lead overboard
Crossing over lines with tiny feet
Pattering towards safety.

In a safe blanket of grass and daisies
Hunting for a crumb of food
Or a bed untrodden by feet.

The Fairy Garden by Gemma Creegan

Roses drip their dewy secrets
The air is sweet and perfumed
With jasmine, sage and lavender.

Clouds merge to form laughter
Birds sing for the love of Spring
Blades of grass reach for the sky.

I glimpse a fairy in a hedge
Her face glows like moon shine
Reflecting the lilies on the pond.
