A New Year’s Journey by James Aitchison

I will leave behind the old shore,

that spent and weary year,

and cross over to the new,

bright and blue and clear.

I can see the peaks I’ll climb,

I’ll achieve my dreams — you’ll see!

I’ll make the world a better place,

the best year it can be.

The Days by Graham Seal

Now we’ve seen the new year in
and seen the old one out,
How were all our past days spent
and what they were about?

Good days and bad days
Quiet days and mad days
Low days and glad days
Slow days and sad days

All those days that took away
twelve months of our time –
They were the days –
These are the days
of auld lang syne

My Excuse (for not keeping my 2024 New Year resolution) by James Aitchison

I made a resolution

to keep the whole year through.

I wrote it down but lost it,

now I don’t know what to do.

I’ve searched but cannot find it,

no matter how I strive.

Oh well, I’ll make another one

in twenty-twenty-five.

The Evolution of the Resolution by Jacinta Lou

It’s a new year and I’m supposed to make a resolution.
A promise to myself to do better –
to continue my evolution.
Eat less sugar.
Do my homework on time.
Less screen time –
no I don’t think I’ll promise that.
But then I heard people say, new year’s resolutions only last a few weeks.
A month at best!
So I’m going to start a revolution and do away with new year’s resolutions.
Unless it’s eating more chocolate.
And more screen time.
And maybe more books.
Happy New Year!

What Will The New Year Be? by James Aitchison

I wonder what the New Year will bring,

What games we’ll play and songs we’ll sing?

Will it be shiny and full of fun,

Will it look after everyone?

Will it be hopeful for every race,

Will I live it full of faith?

I think the New Year is up to me:

I’ll make it the year I want it to be!

A sparkling summer

Christmas is coming,

Our school year’s complete.

It’s time for admiring,

As we walk street to street.

On doors we see wreaths

of green and red  holly.

On  balconies, sleighs,

and Santas fat and jolly.

The streets are not dark,

Even though it’s late,

For blinking and winking

On tree, fence or gate

Is a string of sparkling LED lights.

Our suburb’s gone magic

With colours so bright

We’ll visit again,

A new street each night.

But I’m glad that the sparkling

Is a Christmas-time treat

Like presents and cicadas,

and too much to eat.

The year keeps on turning,

Christmas is almost over.

Tomorrow is New Year’s Day

So tonight we’re all going

To the fireworks display.
