“Hitching A Fruity Ride” by Celia Berrell

A plant that makes fruit
to disperse its seed
will give many creatures
a juicy feed.

They’ll gobble it up
then travel a bit.
The seeds come out later
in excrement.

The seed’s ready-planted
in clumps of dung.
A long way from home
and its prying Mum.

With plenty of food
that will help it grow,
it does what it likes …
‘cos its mother won’t know!

He stands back, admiring his artwork.
It’s finished and ready to view.
My brother has obvious talent
for someone who’s not even two.
He’s used the whole packet of crayons,
the colours are simply divine.
He’s captured his circles and squiggles
in such a creative design.

But Grannie’s not praising my brother.
She doesn’t look happy at all.
If only he’d drawn on the paper
and not on her living room wall.

I took off a sock

and got a shock —

my toes had all turned green.

I took off the other,

and what a bother —

there wasn’t a toe to be seen!

I walked in light
one sacred night,
while mulga dreamed
of morning bright.
Beyond the light
and colours bright,
the desert oaks
unseen and quiet.

“Beware the Sandwich” by James Aitchison

A sand witch ate a
sandwich,
which tasted
very good.
Then she took
another bite,
one more than
she should.
Let the sand witch's sandwiches,
which the sand witch ate,
be a warning to you:
eating too many sandwiches
can send you too to the loo!

Run, rabbit, run,
Hide those eggs from everyone.
Some are gold,
Some are green,
The biggest eggs you've ever seen.
Lots of chocolate,
Yum yum yum,
When will the Easter Bunny come?

Inspired by a true story!

Amy bolted up in bed
one cold and dark March night
A rustling in her pantry
had given her a fright.
Dear Me! What did she find there?
young Jack was on the floor
Screwed up Easter wrappers
surrounding him galore.

High up on the top shelf
he had found the family stash
Jack had eaten every egg
there was nothing left but trash.

Well, Amy rang the Easter Bunny
raving mad by what went down
when it came to Easter-time
No eggs for Jack were found.
