Kathryn Apel was born and bred a farm girl – and is still scared of cows! Kat lives amongst the gum trees, kangaroos and cattle on a Queensland grazing property.
Kathryn writes rhyming poetry and free verse. Her first verse novel, ‘Bully on the Bus’, was published by UQP in 2014 and won the 2015 Australian Family Therapy’s Award for Children’s Literature – Young Readers/Picture Book. Later verse novels, ‘On Track’ (middle grade) and ‘Too Many Friends’ (younger reader), are also published by UQP. Kathryn’s rhyming picture book, ‘This is the Mud!’ (Lothian Hachette) has been read by Justine on ABC Play School.
Kat has had poems published in ‘One Minute Till Bedtime’ (Little, Brown 2016), Pearson Magazine, the NSW School Magazine, New Zealand Junior Journal, Gylendal Press (Norway), and Alphabet Soup.
An accomplished poet in rhyme and free verse, Kat offers a range of talks/workshops for students, educators and adults, and is happy to tailor activities to best suit your context. You can read more about her words and her workshops at; katswhiskers.wordpress.com
