Jeremy James Johnson by Margaret Pearce

Jeremy James Johnson was a very naughty boy.
Fatty fried junk foods were all that he’d enjoy.

Now Jeremy had a little dog, his name was Mut.
He sat under the table, his mouth never shut.

Mut liked cauliflour, carrots and celery stewed,
He ate every scrap because he just liked food.

Mut even ate cabbage and broccoli as well
Although why he liked them no one could tell.

So Jeremy was able to show a plate scraped clean,
And demand two helpings of chocolate ice cream.

He got away with this for month after month,
Jeremy got skinny and Mut strong and plump.

Jeremy looked at Mut who shared his day,
And saw how fast he ran around to play.

“Mut’s not tired and runs faster than me.
Why does he still have so much energy?”

His father with glee got to Jeremy at last.
“Mut eats all your vegies that’s why he’s fast.”

Jeremy James Johnson is now very very good.
He eats all his vegies as every child should.

And fatty fried foods make him feel very sick
Because Jeremy is now on a fitness kick.

Jeremy can now run very very fast
So his little dog Mut often ends up last.

Krispy by Jeanie Axton

Krispy’s now a famous bear

who could not believe his luck

right there in town late one night

an open door on a donut  truck.

Well, he licked his lips and in he went

chocolate, cinnamon and sprinkles galore.

Krispy just couldn’t get enough

two in each of his furry paws.

However, he was caught red handed

told to leave the truck quick smart

but not before the film crew arrived

Krispy played the perfect part.

He smiled right into the camera

showing of his sugary grin

then waddled back to the woods

to boast of his big win.

Alas, the other bears

hearing the truck was securely locked

grumbled and grunted loudly

“ Why did you not bring us a box!”

Devonshire Tea by James Aitchison

I went to Devon

in a dream,

and there I ate

scones, jam and cream.

I put the cream on,

then the jam,

and someone said,

“That’s wrong, young man!

The jam goes first,

the cream is next.”

I was getting

very vexed.

So what do you do?

Which comes first?

The jam? The cream —

or reversed?

Party at Luna Park

by Jenny Erlanger

The party was great.

I’ve got so much to tell

but I can’t do it now,

I’m not feeling too well.

I don’t want to chuck

but I know that I will.

Is it something I ate

that is making me ill?

The frankfurts and sauce

can’t have made me feel bad.

The ten that I ate

were the best that I’ve had.

And it wasn’t the chips

that I had as a snack

as we all raced around

on the dodgem car track.

It might have been what

I was drinking instead,

that bottle of stuff

that was fizzy and red

that I drank when my mouth

was all dried up inside

after screaming so much

on the Gravitron ride.

Or could it have been

what I had as a treat,

something I’ve wanted

forever to eat,

that mountain of fairy floss

stuck to a stick?

Quick, pass me the bucket,

I’m going to be sick.

KALE

by Kaye Baillie

Kale is not a thing of beauty

matt deep green leaves

as dark as night

their underside a network

of wrinkled veins.

Washed

ready for the pot

but there is a surprise!

Glistening glass-like watery jewels

shine and shiver

trapped in membrane pockets

soon to be darkened leaves

again.
